Fig Tree Trouble

We have a fig tree, unknown age though it is ~20-25 ft. tall, so fairly old. Produces a nice crop, but the fruit remain very spongy (don't get gelatinous as one would expect), and the interior seed area seems almost dry-rotted--crumbly, an off-brown color.

The necks bend, some fruit sees a seep, so you would think these would be proper figs-- they color nicely and seem like they're going to be great, but even these fruit are very pulpy. No noticeable affect to the leaves or branches. Just this issue with the fruit.

We live in Northern California, so there is usual wet weather Oct-April, then hot and dry through the summer. We've had the fruit issue for the past two years with very variant weather, but we only moved into the home a few years ago, so I don't know how long this issue has been going on.

I read this thread on shrivelling figs, which some of our figs do, but not all... mostly those that get heavier sun exposure. Could it be a watering issue? Even with a tree this old?

Any advice would be gratefully accepted. I've just begun learning about fruit trees after moving into this house, and would love to get this fig tree back on track if at all possible.
