Wow, you have quite a number of figs - thats an interesting set up you have. What do you do with all of those figs? Thanks for the info and pic.

I am adding about 60 new varieties this year to the 55 or so varieties I already have in ground. People generally send you 3 cuttings of each variety so can end up with a lot of extras. I have room for 150 in the set up in the picture though you can't see the whole thing. Still not sure if I will start new plants from my in ground trees. I have time to decide as they are not dormant yet.

The only reason to wait is that you have to be careful in carrying all the way through winter indoors. I have done it numerous times but it's time consuming.

Colder climates have to wait until March through May until transferring outside because of frost dangers.

I like to let them harden off on the plant after they enter dormant but want to get them before they get damaged by low temperatures or deer:)

I prefer getting scions in late winter, but when I only have access to a fig tree during a short window, I'll take a few scions given the opportunity. At this time, I have several sticks in my refrigerator until it gets warmer in my house.

The gentleman asked for help to save his family's fig tree as his parents have passed away and the house on Long Island is being sold. The tree meant a lot to him so I volunteered to start it and he sent me cuttings of it and that is one of them. Once the fig is in a gallon pot and established I will give it back to him. He sent 6 cuttings and 4 are doing great and 2 have rooted but still leafless.
