Question about growing a standard

I am attempting to grow a standard from a cutting. I have followed the advice in the FAQ section, and so far it is doing great. My question is since these plants normally need a dormancy period, do I let this plant go dormant and then start growing it again later, or do I skip this with a standard? Also if it does need a dormancy period, how long does it need to rest? This will have to be done indoors, as I'm in zone 5. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Yes, all fuschia require several months of dormancy. This can be done in a garage or basement that stays about 40 deegrees. Bring it indoors before the first frost; remove the leaves and wait until spring. It could be moved to a warm, sunny spot in February and allowed to grow.

What if my fuschia is blooming in Dec. and missed the dormancy period? Should I cut it back anyway and put it in the basement for a few months?
I really enjoy the winter blooms so I would like to continue the unusual cycle.
