These 'pods' are the fruit of the plant and contain the seed, if you don't remove them the plant will think that it has done it's job of reproducing and flowering will slow down.

It does not matter that you have a lot to remove but it does matter that you do it as soon as possible to ensure continuous flowering.

Thank you very much!!! That's the first straight answer I've had, and thank you also for solving my problem with the watering and sun. I just noticed these seed pods about 2 days ago, and everybody was telling me different things - don't take them all off, wait til they dry on the plant and then you can plant them and get new plants, etc. I also noticed that there were less blooms and buds. We now have it hanging on the north side of our garage, which is exactly sunlit as you said it should be. I think I've got the watering part of it down pretty good. Have you ever tried to over-winter them? If you have, I'd be interested in your input. Last year I received a bougainvillea and successfully over-wintered it by cutting it down to above 6 or 8 inch stalks and kept it in the basement where it's very cool, and this year it came back beautifully. Tomorrow I'm going to get myself a comfortable chair to sit in and snip all of those pods off!! Thank you again
