White Heliotrope is my one of my favorite fragrant plants.
I just adore them....the white one seems to grow better.
Let us know how they do from seed.

I bought a white and a purple one from M&M nursery in the city of Orange. I do like them. On warm days the scent is quite intense. I just have to remember not to touch the leaves as they make me itch.

you might try to find heliotrope in some lil nursery away from the big city...that is where I found mine for the past 3 years...course I thought 2.50 for one plant was outrageous...and I always get the purple one, I didn't realize the white was also fragrant...and I been wanting to try and get the seeds, because I would love having about 100 of them, but didn't know if I would have any luck with the seeds....am curious to know how yo make out with them.....

All sources say heliotrope germination: easy.... but I have found and some other posters that heliotrope germinates slowly and erraticly.... so far I only have four seedlings.... If that's all I get I'll still be happy.... just can't wait to smell it! :)

You could try Select Seeds or Well Sweep Herbs in N.J. I have found 5 diff. types of fragrant heliotrope. Let me know if you find anything new.

Do you sow them directly outside or in flats? And when?

I have also been searching for Heliotrope and have bought seeds, which haven't arrived and here is a link for plants. Though I think this is only the purple, I have read the white are more fragrant, I haven't been able to find an online site for white started plants.

i have grown this fro a nursery purchase simply because it said vanilla scented blooms. can anyone tell me if the scent is dependent on growing conditions? mine had no scent whatsoever, and i usually can smell the slightest fragrance from a tiger lily!

Depends on where you get it from and how lucky you are. Best to get it when it's in flower and buy based upon the scent then, it's a very mixed thing.
