Cuban Tree Frog

Anyone out there seen a Cuban Tree Frog recently? Is it too much to hope for, that the cold killed these dreadful creatures. I have not seen the first one since the cold weather.

Come to think of it, no. Maybe the dark cloud of the prolonged cold weather had a silver lining after all!

They think it put a dent in the python population in the Everglades as well.

Now that you mention it I haven't seen or heard a frog of any kind yet. If the cold really did take down the CTF's and pythons that would make this last winter worthwhile.

Not that the cold affected the no-see-um's. They are out in full force; in my neighborhood you can't even leave your house for an evening walk without being attacked by them.

Alas, I had similar hopes. I always used to see one sitting on the sidewalk in front of my place in the evenings and he disappeared during the cold, so I was so pleased to think that maybe the cold did what I'm too much of a coward to do, but wouldn't you know it--before any of the anoles or bees or butterflies came back, there he was, and with a friend, too. :(

We do a weekly inspection of all the places they like to hide, and nothing yet. We are HOPING the cold did kill them all.

This weekends inspection for the cubans was NONE. We have noticed more tiny green frogs, which is good.

PLEASE REPORT any sightings (number and location) to the Professor who does research on frogs and invasive frogs such as the Cubans to:

I have been on CTF patrol for several weeks now, and none so far. I'm not daring to hope they are ALL gone, but if the cold made a dent in the population, maybe I can finish them off with my trusty weapons of froggie dispatch. (Don't ask.) I DID find lots and lots of dead ones during the winter. I hope that's a good sign.

    Fingers crossed!!

    Thanks for that link, aflorida.

None seen here yet! Woohoo! It's good to see the lizards, and there are plenty of toads, but no CTF's! I haven't seen any green frogs either, which is a bit worrying, but hopefully they'll make an appearance soon.

I heard a frog-like noise last night and held my breath, but I think it was a good frog, as it certainly wasn't a cuban! I did find a dead one on the porch and my husband dispatched one that had hitched a ride in the house this winter!

I saw a Cuban Tree Frog just the other day and we bottomed out at 16.7* this winter. I was hoping it got them all. We had a lot of Brown Anoles die this winter, but a few of them made it. I have seen a couple of the little green rain frogs as I call them... been hearing lots of Leopard Frogs. Maybe the Cane Toads were slowed down a bit too??? I sure hope so.
