My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
Gorgeous pictures, everyone! Nova, Mme Leonie is stunning! And I would KILL to have a clematis like that. I think it just gets too hot here to keep their roots cool enough. I do have a native clematis (clematis crispa) but not anything so beautiful as yours!
Cindee, that cactus is fantastic! Kgardens, ditto the costus! Wonderful!! Jan1, beautiful photos, too, especially the close up of the brilliant canna, and that very interesting "lifesaver!"
I don't have a lot to share right now, but here are a couple for ya.
My spicy jatropha from Ill-man is growing daily, and never seems to quit blooming. Here's a slightly blurry pic.
Heliotrope, the most DELICIOUS smelling thing in my garden, with some gold mound lantana and a coreopsis in back.
A slightly different shot, also showing (clockwise from upper left) Tampa verbain, a bit of the tibouchina, coreopsis, heliotrope and bush daisy.
A ground orchid I got a Biosphere, which I love and need MORE of.
And the newly replanted (today!) bed by the Bali Hut, featuring the adonidia palm in the center, some coleus, lemon desert tagetes, orange profusion zinnias, gartenmesiter fuchsia and other small stuff. (Pay no attention to that strange guy reading the newspaper in the Bali hut!)
Slightly closer photo.
One more angle of the same bed. There are more plants there than you can tell from the photo, but they are still smallish. I can't wait to see it fill in and everything start flowering heavily.
Good morning everyone. I always love this thread as I get to see what all of you have growing. My wish list grows of course as I drool over the beauties.
Nova ~ I love your wisteria. How fortunate you are to be able to grow this beauty. Your Batface Cuphea is something else. I loved Eveylyn's also. I've not seen them around anywhere. Where did you get yours? Also that Florida anise is very nice and unusual. Your roses gorgeous.
Cindee ~ Love that purple porterweed, it is such a butterfly magnate. Salvias are a favorite of mine, and I 'did' have some buttercup, I'll have to go out and see if it's where I last saw it. Mmmm. That cactus orchid is a beauty also. You have some wonderful blooms in your gardens.
Kgardens ~ Your ginger and Costus Barbartus are something else. How neat that you got these from fellow FGer's.
Jan ~ Gorgeous everything. That medusa head is something else. Your red orchid catucs is a beauty and the lifesaver very cool and unusual.
Marcia ~ jatropha is a wonderful plant and you'll love it year round with all of it's blooms. Another great butterfly magnate. I had heliotrope a couple of years ago and I LOVED the scent of it and the flowers are really sweet looking too. Those little orange orchids will spread for you. They are great bloomers. Love your bali hut and garden. Look forward to seeing this garden as it fills in.
Evelyn ~ As usual your orchids have me sighing and turning a tad green from the green eyed monster. Your bat cuphea is adorable that's for sure. Cosmos are sweet. I have a petrea cutting from D'Ann that is growing and I hope it keeps on growing and turns into a beauteous bloomer like all the ones I've seen here.
Your flowers and gardens always inspire me and I thank you all for sharing from your gardens.
Here's a bit of what is growing here at PC Gardens.
This is a light peach cape honeysuckle. I already have the orange, and just planted seeds of the yellow from Katkin. I hope they sprout.

This is cats whiskers.
{{gwi:842633}}
This is a daisy that I can't remember the name of.
{{gwi:842634}}
I think the red is firecracker and the purple is Phillipine violet.
{{gwi:842635}}
This is millionbells.
{{gwi:842636}}
Rubber vine, was here when we moved in here in 1973.
{{gwi:842638}}
A 'weed' called Spanish needles. I try to keep most of this out of paths as the needles stick and then become volunteers elsewhere around the property. : -)
{{gwi:842640}}
Thunbergia bush.
{{gwi:842642}}
An unknown vine. Sometimes the flowers are white. I think it depends on where it is growing on the property.
{{gwi:842644}}
This is zebra and I forget the name of the flowering shrub it is on.
Just beautiful blooms, folks. Thanks for sharing. I have only space for potted plants right now, and recently moved here, so this is a whole 'nuther gardening world for me. Started a wishlist, and just added those Orchid cactus to it, after seeing these blooms. So beautiful, especially those white ones!
I've nothing of my own to trade, but my landlady has graciously told me I may take clippings or starts of anything in this yard. Such a lovely gesture. She has told me the vareigated hibiscus out front is rare, as is some ruffly-leaved crotons recently planted out front. If anybody would like to see photos, send up the word.
Evelyn, your Den. lodigesii is gorgeous. It's on my list of things to get. Marcia, Corey is so impressed by your Bali hut it's on our fridge for dissection and future building.
vaodiva, are you going to Ricky's swap? if so, you can have a kiki off my lodigesii... I was trying to visit your homepage but I just got an 403 error ?!
Vanessa, have Corey talk to Mark...it was surprisingly hard to build, as he constructed the roof frame on the ground, and then the TWO of us had to lift it up onto the legs! I only wish I had a video of us doing so...it was like Ricky and Lucy Put Together a Bali Hut!
I saw the prototype in an old Better Homes & Gardens article, and knew that was what I wanted, rather than the usual Tiki hut or chickee with a flat roof. The tall roof lets so much breeze through, and we deliberately kept the "footprint" small (I think it is 8 x 10) to make it look more like a little house on a beach somewhere. Almost a kiosk effect. It is my favorite thing in the yard, so far. Mark laid a brick floor inside, but even mulch would work. Or decking. The roof is reed fencing. We replaced it this year, as after three years, that stuff starts to go. But I don't know anything else that would give it the look I wanted, so we decided it was okay to replace it every few years. It's cheap enough, and doesn't take long to staple the new one on.
Welcome, girlsaylorz...I don't think I've "met" ya before, but nice to hear from you. You'll have stuff to trade before you know it.
Traceyanne, I've never seen bacopa that color. I'ts gorgeous! Love the daylily, too.
Oh, heck! I just love ALL these photos! Wonderful, folks!
Evelyn, sorry about the site. I was actually blocking it as a test and forgot to undo it. Glad you said something. Ricky's swap? I'll have to look and see when it is, but the rents are in town and I'm afraid they'll need entertaining. I'd love a keiki though.
Hi all, your photos are so inspiring, both for the skill with growing and the skill with photography. Alot of my regulars seem to be lagging behind for some reason, especially my plumeria -- and yes I did fertilize them. Maybe that was my problem. But they do have buds coming out at least. My favorites right now are my combined flower pots. Always great for quick floral gratification.
Miscellaneous flower pots
incredibly adorable lantana "tree"
gazanias, bromeliads, california daisies, firecracker
close-up of jatropha podagrica in above flower bed
white geiger
nun's orchid
Hope that's not too many photos -- I left out a lot!
Laura, I think your bulb thinnie is Naked Ladies(Amaryllis belladonna) I really like your blanket flower, mine looks different (different species, I guess) - we need to trade!
Olya you are right about the belladonna (never heard it called Naked Ladies I would remember that!). I was thinking is was an amaryllis crossed with something else but now I'm not sure.
a small branch of this maroon colored cuphea fell into my belt pouch one day while I was out and about.... darn branches just hop into my pouch, actually native green treefrogs, rainworms and lizard eggs do that too... weird, isn't it?
Regine, I'm curious about your Ruby Hibiscus...it's gorgeous and I think I may have to have one! Who, what, when, where and why, please? Will it grow up here in Zone 9?
Marcia, I bought the plant about two years ago. It went completely dormant and disappeared last summer, then in September, it started growing and shot up to 10 feet in no time at all. I'm keeping it pruned so that it grows more shrub-like. It drops a lot of seeds, so it could be considered invasive.I'm just wondering when and if it will go dormant.It will grow in zone 9 so if you're interested, I'll be happy to send you some seeds or I may even find a seedling somewhere.
Laural, I'm fascinated by your peanut ground cover. I've read about it and wondered if it would work here (i'm a little bit south of you actually.) Was it hard to get established? We don't have kids, but do have a big dumb dog. I'm thinking about doing peanut in the front, where the dog doesn't go.
And VaodivaI don't know the name of your lavendar weed, but I have it too, and I love it. If I have to pull it, I'm careful to spread the seeds.
