We have two pelargonium sidoides plants in pots on our patio and they've begun to look a little raggedy, so I was going to hard prune them so they can come back fuller and nicer in due time.
Since I plan on hacking them down, I decided to try to propagate some cuttings. I'm going to plant them directly into a flower bed that is in mostly sun, with afternoon shade through the summer. Come fall-winter, they will be in full sun.
Should I use rooting hormone or skip this step? I've heard conflicting opinions, so I'm not sure what to think.
Also, the image I attached shows where the soft new growth meets woody old growth. Where do I cut for the best chance of successful propagation?
After I pick my transplanted stems, how far should I cut the plant back? Is it okay to hard prune this time if year?
