Very nice. And, I agree that this one has not made it out into cultivation except by yourself, Mona. It does look very much like some plants in cultivation except that your's is prettier. The short striped flower with a cupped calyx is seen in a couple of poorly ID'd species. One, more commonly grown is called tricolor, and the other, a larger grower with long chains of beautiful round leaves is called cordifolia. Except that, sigh, I have heard botanists id one of these two as the other so I really don't know exactly what is what. You may have a new clone of one of these. But, the ones I know both have green calyxes and your's is a nice pale shade. It is really nice. I hope you can self polinate it and send see to some of the people here or to the AGGS seed fund, or to some botantical gardens around the world, where it could be grown on. Cuttings of aeschynanthus ship very easily, dry in a ziplock bag. But, I don't know about various country's import laws. So, seed would be better. I would send some to the Smithsonian Museum department of Botany in Washington D.C. for ID and distribution. Also Selby Gardens in Sarasota Florida is setting up a gesneriad identification center.

The island of Bornea has many beautiful species of Lipsticks. Many of the species that are native there are not in cultivation though they probably would do well and are well worth growing for their flowers and their foliage.

In any of you are curious to see the names of all the so-far known Borneo species, you can do a search on the linked Smithsonian site. Just type in Borneo on the location line and enter. The island of Borneo has several nations and provinces in its midst. You can also search these areas by name to see which gesneriads grows in each place--such as Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, Kalamantin. There are several hundred species of aeschynanthus native throughout the tropics of Asia; but only about a quarter of them, or less, can be found in cultivation. And, there are probably many other species out there, waiting to be discovered.
