I got two lead cuttings from another plant and now about 2 months later its already blooming! I guess it likes a > 70% humidity in my apartment (though I dont really like it :) )
Wow- those are beautiful shots! I imagine FL is a pretty good spot for Episcia-growing. Minnesota can be a little less kind to them (Actually they're a breeze here in summer, but they have a long winter to limp through.) I just love them-- they're so soft and multi-layered, and it's so fun to watch them just take off when conditions suit them. Yours is a really nice-looking plant; congratulations on the bloom! ...so, do you have a second Episcia picked out yet?
Florida definitely is kind to episcias. They like heat and humidity but will do well in dry summertime California. One episcia that seems to really do better in Florida is E. lilacina in its many forms. It has light lavender flowers. Your plant is a cupreata type with its orange-red flowers. Your plant looks awfully familiar but I can't say which variety it is. My first guess would be 'Chocolate Cream'. Nice growing.
Yes - it is a self-watering pot - purchased at Walmart. I used it with relative success for orchids grown in semi-hydro medium, but this episcia seems to take quiet a liking to it.
It looks alot like one that I have called "Ronnie", I think. It blooms pretty much continuously for me, as long as I keep pinching stolons. Episcias like the Central Texas summers too, especially in my warm plant room. I have the A/C set high during the day, and that room easily reaches 85-90. Only gessie that has completely failed on me due to conditions is Streptocarpus. This is ironic, since they are the reason I started growing gesneriads....
