I don't know of a drawing like what you want. There may be some artwork in Harold Moore's book from the 50's, still one of the best. I don't have it handy; but I think it is called African Violets and their Relatives--or something like that. It might be found in a really good library. It was illustrated with beautiful drawings by a noted botanical illustrator. The book is not rare, as it was a Book of the Month selection in its day.

YOu might also email to the Botany department at the Smithsonian. The gesneriad experts there may be able to help you.

The best idea I can suggest would be to show drawings of the flowers of the main species--cupreata, reptans, and lilacina ( + fimbriata and sphalera). Each species has a unique shape, color and size. You may find this in Moore's book.

Jon do you have information on sphalera? I see that fimbriata is very rare in cultivation.

Sphalera has small bubbly green leaves, making lots of stolons. It likes high humidity so is a good candidate for a terrarium. When happy it grows fast so needs a good sized space to grow. It has white flowers but is shy about sharing them with us. Fimbriata is less often grown, but most commonly seen in the cv. 'Blue Heaven', which has become fairly common these days. It has plain green plush leaves, sending out fairly long stolons. Other forms of fimbriata are much rarer, and can have two toned leaves, like 'Dudley's Silver', which I haven't seen in years. On Mauro Pexioto's site, Brazil Plants, there are some photos of unusual episcias.
