Looks like your plant is sitting too long in the same pot. There is no significant stem, but eventually the top leaves grow and old die - the plant develops some kind of stubby stem and becomes floppy. The soil accumulates salts and the leaves start drying on the sides loosing their symmethry and sometimes it looks like some bug took a bite. (Since I do not see the pic - it is my best guess).

The best approach for me would be to find a sucker on your strep, separate it with an xacto knife or sucker plucker - if possible with roots - and root it. Just be sure that the soil has a lot of perlite and keep it covered. When it start growing - compost the old plant.

Thanks for the reply. I know it's difficult without a picture to make any type of diagnosis.

This is a strep that I bought as a plantlet only a couple of months ago. I repotted it from the pot it came in. It simply hasn't been owned long enough to accumulate salts or anything else.

I did take a piece of a leaf to try growing a new plant. There isn't anything else to pick from.

I use kebab skewers to tie the repotted streps so they have chance to strengthen their roots and not flop. Second thing - keep it on a dry side, means the soil should be just a bit moist, never wet. Hopefully the soil you used was loose enough, they like to breathe with their roots.
I saw a leaf damage from too much water and too deep in a soil planting - it rots the new leaves and they grow up missing pieces, but I never got any visiting caterpillars. But once I had a vine weevil and it was biting chunks out of AV leaves. They hide in a soil and come in with plants from outside or a greenhouse.

Another thing which works with flopping streps are smooth, flat stones. I don't even remember why I had the stones (they came in a bag). But they work better than anything else I've used and aren't obvious so don't detract from the plant. I move the stone about every four weeks to see if the plant has strengthened. Removing the stones is easier on the plants, I think, than when I had to pull out cocktail picks, skewers and floral pins.

Thank you Irina and Linda for your help and suggestions. I'm not sure, but I'm beginning to think my soil mixture was too heavy and it's suffering from some rot problems. I have the leaves proped and drying the soil out. I cut a leaf and potted it in case it dies. It should be repotted in a better draining mixture but I'm afraid of disturbing it too much at this point.
