Have the same problem. Sinningias go dormant - and if you overwater them - they rot - otherwise they just sit forever.

I just recently asked our sinningia lady how to keep them - and she said - same way you keep rhizomes - put it in a plastic bag with barely moist sphagnum or vermiculite, zip it, pin it to you light shelf with a clothespin - and check it from time to time for a new growth - then pot it. Another lady advised to clean and wash it in a warm to hot water to break the dormancy - but it sounded kinda fishy to me.

My Amizade is preparing to bloom. We will see.

Repotting seems to have done the trick; I have two little growths coming out! Yippee! Something went right!!

Yaay, Korina! Congratulations!

I've never grown 'Amizade' but have grown both parents, which are hard to grow. I lost kautskyi and, it seems, so has everyone else. Hirsuta is famous for going into prolonged dormancy. At last week's meeting someone brought in a plant in flower. We were all commenting on how frustrating this species can be. Seeing it in flower was like seeing an old friend again.

But, 'Amazade' appears to be much easier to grow, though, by no means, is it a fool proof plant. I've seen spectacular specimens in shows, though. It was Best in Show at last year's convention show in Portland, and I think, it was a Best in Show at a previous convention as well.
