bulbils, like the rhizomes are very late to sprout. Sometimes they'll sprout after the rhizomes which is usually late april thru may for us in zone 8b.

My globbas are always the last gingers to appear. I planted some Purple Globe 2 years ago, and it seeded its little bulbils naturally, and last spring (LATE spring) all these little Purple Globes just sprouted everywhere!

It may depend on temps., Tim's the expert, tho. Mine seem to not come up until mid to late April-May.
