I would plant them as one. Separating them could stall blooms for a year. In my experience, the larger the root mass, the better chance for blooms.

Many curcumas have round storage tubers attached by "arms" to the main rhizome. These provide food for the plant, but do not have a growing point and will not produce a plant if broken off. I don't remember seeing these on C. aurantiaca, but I'd leave them attached anyway.
