It's not really uncommon for it to bloom in established clumps or if a large enough rhizome is used for the start. Unfortunately, it is sterile and never makes seed. (note, researchers have produced seed producing clones for use in breeding, but you won't find them in a supermarket ).

However, if they are well fed and watered, they probably adore you anyway.

Happy for you your ginger is gonna bloom. You can multiply this plant so fast by dividing the rhizomes see production not important to the plant.

Aww shucks, no ginger seeds. Sigh...oh well, at least it's blooming! Seeing how the price of ginger is so high, it's a good thing it likes me so much! I'll have to divide it, any idea what is the best time to do that is? I am guessing during the spring?
