Hi, It has been my experience that the Hedychium are tougher for us northern gardeners since they bloom in the fall and require a longer growing season.....start the rhizome early inside so that the growing season is long enough. Another thing to try is the Curcuma, Globba, Kaempferia, etc. that have a natural dormancy even in the tropics and many bloom in the spring....makes it easier to grow and ensures a greater likelihood of seeing some wonderful bracts.
