I don't know if the article exists on the net or not but it was a good article that basically covered how to grow edible ginger from a grocery store rhizome. I read it before starting my first one :) I think it just gave good common sense pointers about buying a rhizome that was firm and not shriveled and planting it in well draining soil. It will also take your ginger a long time to sprout. I just about gave up on mine and them of course it sprouted. In the winter they go dormant, so if you are gonna sprout one now I would do it indoors on a heatmat. Give it good light as well. Keep it moist but not soggy. Bury it shallowly- just covering the top with soil. I used mg with about 1/3 perlite mixed in.
Mine are in a large pot outdoors and are going dormant now. It had green cone shaped bracts on it with little white flowers a few mos ago. The cones and leaves are fragrant when you crush them. I couldn't bear to dig them up and use the rhizomes though lol :P
