Mine requires little maintenance with the exception of reverticalizing after hurricanes( mine actually only leaned slightly after Frances, jean and Wilma straightened it out. Full sun works well and the only pruning i have done so farwas pre hurricane . There may be more to the proper care of this tropical however I found little on the internet regarding proper fertilizing and pruning to increase bloom - age seems to be taking care of this more ). After 10 years in the ground mine is 10" in diameter15-18' tall and first 5 ft is trunk

Sambac ~ DH bought me ours for our anniversary last year. I've just pruned off lower branches, and watered. I can hardly wait for it to bloom again this year. It's a beauty that's for sure.

I was told to pick off the finished blooms to keep it from being top heavy, especially during stormy weather.

stuartdave ~ nice to know what size yours is after 10 years.

Here's mine. I have to clip off low shoots. In the beginning I had trouble because it died to ground during a frost. I wish I had trimmed it to one trunk but I didn't. I might cut it back after it finishes blooming. I don't want any tall stuff falling down during a hurrice. I have a winter flowering vine growing up it since it loses all leaves in the winter. It's just beginning to bloom now. This photo is from last year.

Queen crepe myrtle went in the ground this week, thanks all for the replies. Stuartdave, nice to know it does not get massive- using it more as privacy fence. Barbacoleus- nice looking tree, what winter vine do you have growing on them?
Flowerlady- mine is in bloom now- hope the transplant does not loose it's blooms. Beautiful indeed.

barbcoleus ~ beautiful picture of your Queen.

sambac ~ I see ones around our area here starting to bloom, still none on mine yet. : -(

I have Queen's Wreath planted under it. I just put in around January so it's growing some so I'll hae to wait until next year to see if it was actually a good idea.

Barbacoleus- branching trunk makes them attractive. If Queen's wreath are doing well in Zn 10 will give it a try.
