Actually, come to think of it, this is great news. I was worried that they would require much more space than they apparently do, I should be able to plant at least one of all the varieties I have seeds for after all.

I've got jarrahdale, snow white, and something I have no clue what it is other than a most interesting shading of tan/brown/dark gray at the handle down to dark green at the base.

Sounds like I can get at least one vine of each going in that space, possibly two of each.

Last year was our first year to grow pumpkins with the grandkids. Had a great time watching, naming them and pampering them (pumpkins, not grandkids) always have fun with thim lol. We got about 9 small ones, planted late but truly enjoyed growing them. This year I want to start on time and grow big ones, 50 to 100 lb ones. What is the best varitiy of seeds and does anyone ever give them away?

A few really big ones that come to mind are Dill's Atlantic Giant, Big Max, Wyatt's Wonder, First Prize, and Prizewinner.

Depending on how old your grandkids are, you might want to look into the Giant Lumina/White Ghost pumpkin. They're usually 8-12" across, and anywhere from a very pale blue to snow white in color. Older kids can have fun carving them, younger ones can have fun painting them (since they're white, they make a great canvas).

I'm growing some this year because of a cool picture I found of a regular orange jack-o-lantern with part of it's "head" blown off and they put one of these white pumpkins carved like a skull inside of it.
