They look like bottle and penguin gourds that are bodged together...any gourds that you like the shape of oughta work, though. Don't let someone else's work define your own.

What's the best adhesive to use on gourds? It would have to be pretty tough because the drum is played by holding it upright and hitting it on the ground.

I like products made by Loctite.

Liquid Nail is as tough as anything, though. I`ve not used it on a gourd, but I use it frequently on wood, and I`ve seen instances where wood under stress snaped at a location other than where it had been Liquid Nailed together. It`d probably hold for what you`re after.

Why not use a very large bottle gourd! Cut off both ends. Lynne

For adhesive, thier using Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive at the Purple Martin Forum for gluing entrances on birdhouse/kettle gourds. It expands slightly as it sets up to fill in small gaps. This stuff can be found at any lowes/Home Depot, about $3 tube, gonna need a calk gun to apply , and need paint thinner to get it off your hands. It will leave a 1/4" raised bead at the glue joint after set-up. Tom.
