Hi, new here. I am totally new to ornamental grasses. I wanted to put a few in my yard. I bought Mexican feather grass, stipa tenuissima, today. I have been reading about it on the internet. I have some concerns about the invasive reseeding that some reports show. I have a fairly small area of gardening. Do you think it is something I can keep under control pretty easy? I know this is an image board but since you're in my area, Notenoughtroses, I thought you would be a good person to ask. Thanks.

Hi luckyjack, I don't know tons either, but I'm about to plant some in my garden and have done a little research. I've heard that they're only invasive in well irrigated gardens, so cut back on water toward the summer. Also, if you cut back the flower heads, they won't re-seed...just like any other plant.

I've had Nasella for several years, no reseeding. I don't think this is a big problem. This grass doesn't live very long, maybe three to four years, max. But it's very easy and looks great with sunlight in the background. Fun in the wind as well.

Mexican feather grass does self-seed for me, but don't worry about that. It is very easy to pull out and young seedlings have very shallow roots. This is a beautiful grass and one that gets many compliments in my yard.
