Is the information for their miscanthus they're selling correct? I was told from this forum that Miscanthus is only hardy to 6b and above. Their site is showing Zone 4-9.

Lots of varieties of Miscanthus out there. Some are hardy to zone 4, while others only zone 5/6. Hardier varieties include Autumn Light, Silberfeder, Purpurascens, among others.

I searched for Purpurascens pics in Google and looks like this is one of the ornamental grass that I always see in our area and one of the ornamental grass I really want to have. It's very beautiful. While I was searching for it, I also saw the following.

Pennisetum alopecuriodes is hardy to zone 4, and easy to grow from seed.

Here's a good website for information about grasses for your zone. Bluestem specializes in grasses for cold climates.

Most sources indicate 'Aureola' does not produce viable seed. I've never seen any sold, although I have seen some available on seed swap sites. It's unlikely any viable seed would produce the characteristics of the cultivar.
