I'd try it. Most references call for full to part sun.

I swapped for some divisions of Karley last year, and grew them in pots, in morning sun. They did great, and flowered beautifully. I've got other Pennisetums growing just fine in afternoon only sun. Afternoon sun during their growing and blooming season is pretty strong, so give it a try.
