Tell us what you bought. Many Carex varieties need water until established, and are fairly drought tolerant after that.

Hi Donn, I recognize you from the winter sowing forum.

I purchased Carex oshimensis and carex testacea.

I should also mention that reds and burgandies will work too.

According to my books(no hands-on experience with them), oshimensis should be fine, being listed as a "dry woods" variety. Testacea seems to need more moisture, but a little Googling indicates it is more drought tolerant once established.

Evergreen grasses I've started with winter sowing include Fescues other than Blue, scoparia(Jelitto),mairei(Jelitto) and gigantea(Jelitto)..Anthoxanthum odoratum,(Jelitto), Carex grayi(semi-evergreen)(trade), Carex muskingumensis (Jelitto)(semi-deciduous), Deschampsia caespitosa (trade), Cortaderia selloana (trade), Luzula sylvatica 'Select' (Jelitto), Sesleria caerulea (bluish) (Jellito), and Sesleria nitida (bluish)(Jellito).

Jelitto, in Germany, is the best source of ornamental grass seed I've found, listing over 170 selections.
