Hello there. Gourds - like pumpkins etc need a fair amount of room to run - but you can keep them in check by nipping out the runners after about 10 - 12 ft. and remember to keep them away from other members of the pumpkin family as they can cross pollinate which will result in gourds which will not be true to type.
