Creeping jenny

I had a beautiful bed filled with creeping jenny. Last fall I noticed something that looked like insects on it. I didn't treat it with anything because it was late in the season and I assumed the cold weather would kill them.

I just walked outside and noticed that the entire bed is completely EMPTY. Even in the winter, the creeping jenny is there, just dormant. Now there aren't even roots or leaves visible.

What happened?

I've posted a message on this forum asking a similar question. Abut the time you noticed your problem we had a similar issue in our zone 7 garden. Small catepillars ate just about every leaf in sight on the Creeping Jenny. We killed them, fertilized, and got some rejuvenation, but lately, everything has gone south (see other message).
