All liriope spreads :-) That's why it is favored as a groundcover. Liriope spicata just spreads faster and further than Liriope muscari. It can be divided at virtually any time of year, although when it is pushing new growth in spring is pretty much ideal.

Why is it that as I investigate different ground covers, whether its Vinca Minor, Irish Moss or Snow in Summer that are suppose to be alright in full sun I eventually fine some place that suggest that some shade is necessary? It's driving me bonkers! :-)

I have a steep hill that's about 600' x 25' that we can't mow. It's 95% sunny, probably not the best soil in the world. Watering it until ground cover is established is no problem. I live in Cincinnati, OH, so our summers are easily in the 90's and humid. Do you think the Liriope spicata would be a good choic? How does it do with keeping out weeds? I really need something that's as maintenance free as possible as I'm disabled and any groundskeeping help I get I have to pay for. Also are there any suggestions re planting. The hill is currently grass (and weeds). Any suggestions?
