My favorite ornamental grasses, Pennisetum alopecuroides Hameln, start showing new green shoots in late January, early February at the latest. Ive been growing this plant for about 30 years and I can almost set my calendar by it. But this year, they didn't start showing any new green shoots until this week, two full months later than usual.

We've had a very dry winter, but since I've watered to compensate, I don't think that explains the delayed growth and our winter hasn't been all that cold either... just seems really odd to me.
