Hi rigreenthumb1, I think it's a personal preference. I cut mine back twice during the growing season. Once in the spring and again during the summer. I like to keep mine small and neat. It seems to grows back fast.

You could just take your gloved hand and run it along the stems to remove the brown parts. This also works for blue oat grass.

You don't need to trim blue fescue, but it will develop a denser and neater shape if you do.
