Native Ground Covers for Zone 5 (Nebraska)

Hi,

What are some native ground covers for Nebraska pr at least zone 5 that would do well in partial to full shade? I'd like something that will ramble over tree roots, but not climb like an ivy. It would also be nice if it were easily controllable. What are some suggestions? Thanks!
