If you Google "Chrysopogon zizanioides" you'll find lots of information about it. That's its new classification.

You'd be hard-pressed to get much root growth in a zone 5 climate, particularly in containers. It's a tropical plant, and I'm not sure the amount of root you'd get in one short season would be worth the effort.

You're probably right. Just thought I'd check and see if anyone had any experience with this.

I grow vetiver grass as an ornamental. Even in this warm climate and sandy soil, the roots grow hardly 12" deep, much less 12 feet as indicated on some sites that are selling the plugs. It demands very, very warm weather for new growth in spring, and is frost sensitive.

Thanks for bringing up this subject. Reading some of the sites when I googled, I realize that the dry tops can be chopped to make excellent mulch. I've been just laying them along the edges of beds and using some of the longest stems that way you would use thin bamboo stakes, mostly for markers.
