I agree with macmex. The clay soil is more dense/heavier than your potting soil. You potting soil should stay on top.

Thanks! The first grew its third leaf yesterday and the second plant is just starting to grow its third one. I'd upload pictures if I could figure out how.

Got another question though, do jack o latern pumpkins grow vines? And when will the male flowers appear? I know its still early, but I'm just really exited to see them growing so well! :P

yes they grow vines. at the base of the plant you will see some male flowers showing up in a few weeks.

Wow! You certainly have some intense earthworms roto-tilling the soil for you- hehe! From my very limited pumpkin experience, your boy buds should start appearing when your plants are 3-4 weeks old; you should have fruit setting at about 5-6 weeks (that's in my crummy clay). Then you get to wait for them to mature & cure. No instant gratification to be had in the pumpkin patch, I'm afraid. Please enjoy!!

U guys are awesome! I would never be able to get the information from the internet. Its always short and unspecific.

But I have a slight worry. I found a very small cluster of sprouts this morning when I was misting the plants. Its was behind and towards the side of the first pumpkin plant that now has its 4th leaf and working on its 5th.

The second plant just sprouted its 3rd leaf, will I find this happening to it also, or is it just SWG (Sudden Weed Growing)

They look great TieMint. They will take off like you won't believe soon. Watch for squash bugs and vine borers and keep them and bay and you will do fine!
