Definitely not a butternut. Looks pumpkinish, but lots of winter squash start out oblong and green with stripes.

It might be more identifiable when its ripe. :-)

I don't know but it looks just the thing that came out of my black beauty zucchini seeds. I planted them hoping for big, long zukes and ended up with vining plants that gave me that fruit in your pic. I also got several stark white fruits too. I just don't have a clue what it could be.

Just a note,

Pretty much any squash can be eaten young as a summer squash if you want to. The winter varieties tend to be more watery and bland though.

But if your peculiar squash are the only ones you have you might want to try them. :-)
