Reseeding Through Groundcover

21 years ago

I am just planning my garden. I am planning on putting in some annuals that will reseed. I know they won't reseed well through mulch, but what about through groundcover? I'm sure it probably depends on how thick the groundcover is, but any ideas you can give me?

Some of the groundcovers I'm planning on having are;

Forget Me Not

Soapwort

Creeping Thyme

Creeping Buttercup

Alyssum

English Ivy

I'd like to keep most of the reseeding annuals in the same area maybe with a mix of different groundcovers instead of mulch. Would it be best to use a groundcover that is also an annual and reseeds itself? Only problem with that idea is that in the winter I'll have an awful looking bed.

Thanks for your help and any ideas.

Heather
