Ornamental Grass

Splitting young maiden grass

I need to plant some generic maiden grass in a place that is not that important to me and was wondering if anyone has split a newly purchased plant to give yield two plants. Any success with that or will both plants just die? Obviously they'll be smaller, but that's okay with me. Thanks.

I've split newly purchased grasses down to as small as 1" diameter starts, and they did just fine.

A caution about "generic" Maiden Grass. If you mean species Miscanthus sinensis, it could very well be invasive in some of Georgia's climates. You might want to consider a sterile, non-seeding cultivar.
