Start hand pollenating. You have lazy moths, and that is no bueno.

I had to hand pollinate cause of that problem last yr.I had thought to grow a moonvine amoung them,but hubby with his weedeater has had me now have to re sow my gourds and the only seeds left were my birdhouse.but hand pollinateing is better results& I leave the male piece in there and do very early in morning or the night when get open.you'll make more male flowers than females and will see the fruit forming behind the flowers on the females.My birdhouse vine took 120 days last year or possibly 131 for the 1st one.

Will having a light near the vine draw the moths?

Not for sure...moths tend to ignore everything else for a light. they may show up, but I doubt they`d do any functional work for you. I plant lots of different flowering things in and around my field-morning glories, moonvine, bee balm, and lots of daylillies. I don`t visit my field often once the gourd vines start to run, but I suspect I get a lot of help from carpenter and mason bees in the early evening and just at sunup. If you have lots of flowers and lots of color, the insects should find you...

Looks like I'm not the only one. I have had thousands of female flowers come and go. Luckily, I have two that have taken.

How does one hand pollinate?

What I loathe about this idea, I'd have to do it in the middle of the night with various bugs attacking me since it seems like that is the only time the flowers open.
