dont know why not. the whole idea behind the plastic bag is that the bugs cant get to the bottom of the gourd and it it out and the rain water doesnt rot it.

Planted a few pumpkins this year for the first time and we had read to put a roofing shingle under it to protect it in a wet area. Well we have been without rain for about a month now and the last couple of days two of the pumpkins apparently cooked on the shingle and fell apart. Our thought now is that nature should take its course without the help of roofing shingles.
