I have seen this happen from time to time. My personal opinion is that it is caused by slow or stagnant growth during our particularly chilly spring and early summer temperatures. Even though it is relatively warm now, those buds' young development was in much cooler weather. But that's all just guesswork.
The good news is that as the plants grow thru the warm weather the blossoms do get better. However, your concern about not getting a ripe pumpkin is not unfounded. This July has been particularly cloudy in the Nortwest and I plan to pinch off any new female blossoms on my C. Maximas beginning this weekend. I'm trying to fully ripen the existing fruits. You might try the same thing if you get some good pumpkins growing, restrict the number so that the remaing fruits ripen and size up nicely. Your pumpkins are likely C. Pepo which require less heat, so that is in your favor.
