You are growing devil's claw but they aren't gourds. When they are dried they can be used as embellishments on gourds. They are fun to grow but they do sometimes have a stinky smell.

They are also very invasive.In each pod there will be lots and lots of seeds.When the pod dries and breaks open the seeds will be scattered by the wind or whatever and they will come up everywhere.I live in W TX and they grow wild here.Farmers and ranchers hate them. I personally like them because the flowers are really pretty and the actual "claw" is facinating to me. The pods have to dry on the vine.My grandkids make all kinds of crafts out of them,as well as using them for adornments for gourds.
