has any one planted zebra or porcupine grass in zone 9 or 10. if so how did it do? Also need a reliable source for the grass.

Kristin, yes, it should be. Below is a link to a chart that might be helpful to you. Also, since you are new to grasses, you might be enthralled, delighted, stimulated, inspired (etc.) by the Color Encyclopedia of Ornamental Grasses by Rick Darke. Super book.

Little bluestem is native to the southern and western halves of Minnesota. Once you know what it looks like in the landscape, you'll see it in lots of places, especially in sandy areas and along roads in those areas. the DNR uses it in grass mixes along freeways too. Easily a zone 3 plant.
