Are the leaves thick and fleshy? It could be some type of Sedum, I'm just not certain though.

Thanks for looking into this. I just checked the leaves. They are thin. (I was hoping for something thick like jade but no.)

I looked at some pics of Sedum and while I didn't see any maroon ones like mine, it could very well be one of those.

I believe your picture is a barberry seedling. Do a Google image search for "barberry seedlings". Good luck.

Thanks so much. I found a pic of a Japanese barberry, which I can't find now, that looks the closest to what I have. I know now it is an invasive species and see that despite that, it is widely available commercially, I still want to keep it at least a little while. I may not let it grow as a bush but it is colorful and unobtrusive now.
