If you can afford the room for them to grow I would let them. I don't know what your out of control is, but vines should be expected to grow 15-25 ft. long. I have some longer. I have more female flowers growing on my secondary vines than on my primary. But yes there are 15 males to every female it seems.

It seems in past years I, too had this problem of too few females but I guess last year growing a new variety I had a lot more females (about 1 in 5) and this year I am having a hard time polinating the females they are so rampant (about 2 in 5). Maybe it is the conditions, where I put them this year. I bought these big max seeds supposedly from a 1000 pound pumpkin, from Howard Dill's farm in canada.

If you only want so many pumpkins, you can just pluck off any 'female' flowers. You can go out early and pick the male flowers, and batter fry them in a light batter.
