How invasive is Peppermint?

I've always had well-maintained patches of peppermint, and certainly have respected its ability to spread and survive. Considering that it's flourished in near-drought conditions, I'm tempted to use it in newly planted raised beds. Is it ill-advised to use it as a groundcover in with other perennials or shrubs?

I think it would depend on how deeply and well rooted the perennials and shrubs are, and how happy the mint would be. If you put it in fresh new high quality soil, you will soon have a bed of peppermint. And don't fall for that container bit --the roots will go very deep to escape.
