You could. But probably the best idea would be to simply pick up the vines, where you don't want them, and throw them back on top of the plant. They'll straighten themselves out and continue to contribute nutrients to the plant.

I agree with George. I just pick mine up & toss back on top of where I want them to be. No complaints yet :) Pumpkins & guords are still growing like mad!!!

I have a small garden and last year when I had pumpkins that got WAY out of hand so I cut them back ahead of the vine where the pumpkins were and had no trouble at all. I did this on all 3 plants. I think if anything, it sped the growth of what was left of the plant. Good luck.
