    Hi Tom

In the first photo, on the background, I am growing a gourd that you gave me, but has yellow flowers?
Next are the Chinese pumpkin papaya golden. It is setting a lot of fruit, will make a good substitute for zucchini.

On the second photo is a lemon cucumber, the vine keeps on growing as high as the maple. I am going to need a ladder.lol

And the third photo is a watermelon so sweet, I have never tasted anything like it. I will grow it again! Too bad is a hybrid, I can't save the seeds.

That watermelon looks fantastic as does your garden. But I can't stop thinking of the watermelon. Yum!

    Hi NC

Today I planted my second summer garden. It is going to be like a salad bowl, everything in it.
The other melons that I have will ripen soon. I have to keep an eye on them.
I am also growing pepino-melon and is going to be ripe soon. I will show the pics once is ready. I do love this fruit! Look in the market over there, they grow it in Australia. It looks like a big white tomato with purple stripes.
Passifloras are doing good with the rain. Just like you said. :o)
I am planning to put vines all around the fence. I have more varieties of passifloras to be planted...

    Hi jellybobelly

The watermelon is fantastic! Money cannot buy this, believe me! Not in the store, you have to grow it yourself.
    When you are ready...

    Hi,Silvia.
It all looks fantastic,as always. That Chinese pumpkin reminds me of a dish my mother made several years ago.
She bought it in Miami and made the best"Dulce de Calabasa"
(Sweet). It was made to be crunchy on the outside with a candy coating. I had dulce de calabasa before but never as good. Do you know what I'm talking about. She is visiting family in Miami, when she comes back I'll ask her if she still knows how to make it. She told me that is only made with the Chinese pumpkin. She is 91 and strong but I'll see if she remembers. I have so much to learn from you.

Thank you Felix. I am going to try this recipe with the Chinese pumpkin.
When your Mother returns, you should write down the recipes that you like. Very important.
I wish that I had write down my Father's recipes, I cannot ask him now...
He was an excellent cook, he told me he had his Grandmother's seasonings and that he learned from her, just watching her.
When I try this recipe, I will let you know how it came out.

Wow - the color of the melon flesh is gorgeous. I love your veggie garden. I'm trying to grow more edibles, and I'm always at an impass when it comes to squash. I have no room to grow it in mounds... would it be crazy to grow it on a trellis?

I see cosmos and zinnias... those are going to be wonderful in another few weeks!

Thank you Nicki and good eyes! Yes, they are cosmos and zinnias. The garden looks different everyday, there is always something that wasn't there before.

In the first photo there are two beds, each bed has two sides, growing different veggies and flowers.

It helps a lot to have sturdy trellis like the cattle panel. I have the Chinese pumpkins (two kinds), Charentais Melons, Pickling cucumber and an Indian gourd, climbing up.

I also have the yard long beans and Lima beans. In another spots in the garden I have melons in pots climbing a trellis and others just in pots with plastic bins holding them up.

    It can be done!

Silvia, absolutely. When my mother returns from her trip,
I'll see if she remembers the recipe. Hers is dry more like texture of candy fruits use in fruit cakes. She then covers them in powder sugar.Texture is fantastic. Thank you for the link, that is so yummy.
By the way,my Sylvia makes pumpkin flan. You'll have to try some of that. I'm getting fat just talking about it.
Marcia, I'll let you know ahead of time so you can work on an appetite when syl makes all of these sweets. ;-)
    Felix

Thanks for the info, Silvia. I'm going to try growing squash on trellis!

I like the way the cattle panels look. I'm going to have to make a run to tractor supply...

    Felix,
When figs are almost ripe, still firm to the touch, I am going to make preserved figs. Probably one of my favorites, for those I have the original recipe, they are so good!

    Nicki,
Around my area in Winter Garden, there is a Feed store, that they order anything I need. I get the cattle panels and hay from them and the delivery is $20. The posts I get from HD.

Good luck with your plantings! If you need any seeds let me know...

Hi Silvia, Your garden is looking great. That watermelon is quite impressive, and big too. Is that yardlong bean vines growing on the cattle panel?

    Christine

    Hi Christine,
Yes, the cattle panel has both the yard long beans (in the back) and the lima beans (in the front).

The ground cherry is almost ready, look for an orange color to the fruit. It is the best tasting ground cherry that I've found.

    Your Garden Looks SO Good!!!!!
Not Heard of The Pepino-Melon Before.... What Colour Flesh does it have?
    Thanks
    *Smiley*

NC, it is been so long ago that I ate a pepino-melon, that I don't remember exactly the color of the flesh, I think is cream color.

The skin is soft like a tomato, and the flavor is a refreshing sweet that reminds me of a cucumber.

Once the stripes show, I am eating it, I will be inviting the neighbors, because they had ask. They think is a different kind of tomato.lol

If you were here, you would be sampling too...

Silvia, Hope that you show us the inside of that melon.
I started some New Zealand spinach seeds early in the spring and never planted them. Since they look so bad I replanted and I now have new seedlings popping up. This will be my first time growing it. Do you eat it just like Bloomsdale or regular spinach?

    Christine

Yes Christine, I will post pictures of the inside of the pepino-melon when is ready for eating. Hopefully I will get fruit from the tamarillos I am growing too, the two varieties red and yellow.

New Zealand spinach takes good to cooking, it can be used for soups, with eggs in an omelet or quiche. It doesn't become slimy. I think it is a little bit coarse for a salad, unless you use a hot dressing or marinade it.

It always grew wild in my father's house, it is growing wild here too. I can hardly keep up with it. It serves like a living mulch for the other veggies.

Each season, I am trying to plant new varieties of vegetables and fruits and see how well or not they do in this climate. I have a whole bunch of seeds that I have not tried yet.

    Hi NC

I am glad to hear about your Foetida's growth. Hope that you get a lot of good fruit!
My brother and a friend are visiting from Delaware. I am going to send them with some fruit seeds that I know he remembers. This morning we were sampling in the garden.

Silvia ~ I would love to be able to grow edibles like you are doing. Everything looks so lush, healthy and delicious! Are you bothered by night critters at all? All of you who grow veggies really are an inspiration.

    FlowerLady

    Hi FlowerLady

Anytime you want to try to grow more edibles, just let me know what you like and can send you some seeds. Small packages, just to try them. Most of what I grow is open pollinated and I save the seeds. I did save a lot of them this season.

Daily inspection of the crops is crucial if you want to have a successful harvest. If I see anything, I handpick and spray if needed (organic only). I am sure that there are night critters, but as long that I don't see traces, it is fine by me.

It helps to have small dogs that are always sniffing around. I do have a lot of geckos, and I am sure they have plenty to eat. :o)
