I'm planning to use thyme and other things to replace some lawn areas. I have lots of thyme growing out of tight cracks in my patio and forming mats.

Is it possible to propagate a flat of thyme by cutting pieces of the mat and putting some liquid root hormone on the bottom, then putting it on moist soil in a tray with drainage?

Alternatively what's the best way to propagate it, given that its established roots are in tight cracks between stones? Thanks!
