grass for sand, hot sun

I have an area by the beach which I am trying to plant grasses by. There are three large stone steps going from the lawn area to the beach. On each side of the steps we're having erosion problems, so hubby dumped bunches of rocks on the sides--looks kind of shabby. I bought a few 'blue oat' grasses and a couple 'fairy's joke'. Now I'm second guessing myself about whether these are appropriate to the conditions. Any ideas you have would be much appreciated. Also, do you have any idea of a companion plant which would go with the grasses and the harsh conditions?
