bottlebrush grass help-cut back?

beanmomma

I have some bottlebrush grass -3 years, from seed. First year was a relatively small plant, no seedheads. Last year it grew to 4'-5' and formed a beautiful, sturdy seedhead display. The plant held up well all season with no flopping.

This year the plant seems much sparser in foliage on the lower portion of the plant. The top has splayed and flopped terribly. Would cutting the plant back hurt it? I think it might need dividing and replanting next spring.

Thank you,

Lynn
