If you are referring to Delosperma, the plant most often called "ice plant", it is not going to be winter hardy for you. Even the hardiest of the species is iffy in zone 6. This is a plant that originates from desert-like areas of South Africa. It likes dry, lean and well draining soils and a lot of sun. And it doesn't like wet winters - unless very well-sited, it often doesn't even overwinter in my climate.

It does have a pretty long bloom season. In southern California where this is a very commonly used groundcover, specially for hot, dry slopes, it seems to be in bloom for months on end.
